Rafael Coca de Campos is a historian specializing in the history and anthropology of Southern Africa. He holds a PhD in Social History from the University of Campinas (Unicamp), Brazil. His doctoral research focused on the historical and political dynamics of pastoral societies in Angola and Namibia, analyzing their territorial organization, ritual systems, and interactions with colonial and postcolonial governance.

Rafael has been involved in interdisciplinary research groups integrating history, anthropology, archaeology, and environmental studies. His master's research examined the little-known genocide of the Mucubal pastoralists in Angola, highlighting the intersections between colonial policies, economic exploitation, and indigenous resistance. His work engages with comparative perspectives, incorporating insights from Eastern Africa and inter-imperial connections in Southern Africa.

His academic trajectory includes research stays at the Faculdade de Letras at Universidade de Lisboa and the Les Afriques dans le Monde (LAM) at Sciences Po Bordeaux. He has worked extensively on themes related to colonial histories, political transformations, and the interplay between knowledge production and power structures. Rafael is currently engaged in developing new theoretical approaches to cosmology, creativity, and political dynamics in historical contexts.
