Dr. Jáfia Naftali Câmara is an early-career scholar holding a BA from the University of California, Davis, an MA from New York University, and a PhD from the University of Bristol. Her research focuses on the complexities of education in crises and emergencies, climate crises, migration, (im)mobilities, AI in education, the socio-technical transformations of education and the relationship between technologies, education and socioeconomic inequalities. Dr. Jáfia Câmara employs a multidisciplinary approach that merges insights from sociology, anthropology, political science, and urban studies.
Dr. Câmara is affiliated with the University of Cologne's Global South Studies Center (GSSC), The Centre for the Study of Global Human Movement, the Centre for Lebanese Studies, and the University of Cambridge. She is currently collaborating with UNESCO, focusing on educational planning to increase the impact of her research on education and migration in South America.
Born and raised in northern Brazil, Dr. Câmara grew up in a resource-poor setting where education was a privilege—an experience that profoundly influenced her intellectual pursuits and interests in Marxism, land rights, climate justice, and overcoming inequalities in education and society.
