Transformations in the Global South
With our opening conference “Transformations in the Global South” in May 2015, we bring together renowned academics who work on the dynamics of our key thematic research areas – migration and citizenship/labour; commodity chains and changing markets; communicative repertoires. In two round table discussions, three keynote presentations and eight plenary sessions, we aim to defi ne the current state of the art, critically discuss concepts, methods and theories, and explore future research directions. The conference addresses issues such as current struggles over urban green spaces, shifting patterns of immigration policies, economic challenges and changing communication practices. A particular focus rests on theories, observations and perspectives from the South.
