Enrest's main research interests concern African postcolonial State formation and conflicts, political violence and dissent management with a special focus on colonial carryovers to contemporary conflicts. His dissertation project will address the influence of French colonial legacy on the Cameroonian postcolonial State in their handling contestation in general and Anglophone mobilization groups’ quest for autonomy in particular. He goes further to give insight into the context of illegitimacy and violence that characterized the formation of the Cameroonian postcolonial State and its input in shaping the State actors perception of contestation. Moreover, he equally builds on the role of African precolonial institutions in the reproduction of a highly centralized and autocratic postcolonial State.
