Workshop
Between Caricature and Analysis: An Exploration of Graphic Anthropology
14 October 2025
14:00 - 18:00 (CEST)
EUniwell Konferenzraum 2.14-2.15, Classen-Kappelmann-Straße 24, 50931, Cologne
No medium is better than another, and each comes with its advantages and disadvantages. And while graphic storytelling offers possibilities for methodology, analysis, and communication (not to mention outreach and collaboration), it also comes with a few caveats. How for instance do you draw what is (or is supposed to remain) invisible? What about the voices of those who, in the past or present, were bereft of their voice? Such questions are of course not particular to the medium, but gain salience in the context of graphic storytelling. Building on recent work we will explore the possibilities and pitfalls of graphic anthropology. With exercises!
