The GSSC sees itself as a central hub for academic exchange and the structured support of early-career researchers. With workspaces and meeting rooms for 15 to 25 international PhD students, the center offers ideal conditions for interdisciplinary collaboration and mutual learning.

The regular GSSC Seminar Series provides a forum in which ongoing research projects (‘work in progress’) can be presented and discussed. Research visits by visiting scholars from partner universities facilitate research and mentoring relationships between GSSC members and guests, as well as between professors from partner universities and students, and enable interdisciplinary exchange.

Furthermore, the GSSC supports postdocs in particular in their academic development, for example by taking on supervisory responsibilities and fostering the early development of leadership skills in teaching.

Since 2025, the center has also been providing its PhD students with funding to organize workshops and lectures independently. This initiative not only helps to raise the center’s academic profile but also specifically fosters skills relevant to career paths both within and outside academia.

Overall, the GSSC offers an inclusive environment in which research-oriented teaching, international cooperation and targeted mentoring structures are closely interlinked.
