Research Areas

The scientific work of the KPA Global South Studies is divided into three closely interconnected research areas that address central issues in Global South Studies:

  • Environment & Infrastructure: Research on infrastructures and their social, political, and ecological impacts as well as environmental and resource-related issues.
  • Museum & Heritage: Critical examination of tangible and intangible cultural heritage, museums, cultures of remembrance, and systems of knowledge.
  • Co-Producing Knowledge & South-South Relations: A focus on collaborative knowledge production, transnational partnerships, and relations between regions of the Global South.

Together, these three areas form the thematic core of the KPA while remaining open to innovative and interdisciplinary perspectives.
