11 Years of GSSC
11-12 December, 2025
The Global South Studies Center (GSSC) celebrates 11 years of interdisciplinary research, international cooperation, and academic exchange! Since its founding in 2014, the GSSC has been established as an interdisciplinary research center at the University of Cologne, developing innovative approaches to analyze global entanglements, producing new forms of knowledge, and actively contributing to global dialogues. Through its work, the center plays a key role in bringing perspectives from the Global South into academic and social discourse and building interdisciplinary bridges between research, practice, and international cooperation.
Over the past eleven years, the GSSC has brought together researchers from different disciplines and regions to examine issues of global inequality, knowledge production, and social transformation from a comparative perspective. A large number of externally funded research projects represent a strong pillar for the center's success. Close cooperation with partner institutions in the Global South plays a central role in this context.
On the occasion of its anniversary, the GSSC looks back on more than a decade of intensive research, the establishment of sustainable international networks and scientific exchange—while also looking ahead to future research perspectives and joint projects.
