From Trash to Treasure? E-Waste Economies in Global and Local Perspective

The generation of electronic waste, or e-waste, has exploded throughout the globe over the past four decades, with some of the most intensive growth occurring in the past ten years alone. Whereas the bulk of discarded consumer electronics originates in the United States and Europe, many countries across the Global South are witnessing rapid growth of e-waste production in tandem with a rapid rise of consumer electronics markets. This workshop explores social, economic, and environmental impacts of global e-waste production and trade across regions of the Global South and Global North.
